That reminds me of something that I coincidentally read earlier today:
While crossing a river into [Soviet] Eastern Poland, he was accused by [Soviet] soldiers of being a [Fascist] spy and was sent to a Siberian labor camp as a prisoner of war. In freezing conditions, my grandfather was forced to carry sleepers for the Trans-Siberian Railway.
Fortunately, his skill as a tradesman paved the way for a transfer to a kolkhoz, a collective farm, where he survived the war. His brother, Zachariah, was the only other one of the ten siblings to survive. Tragically, over 150 members of the Rudzyn family were mercilessly sent to the gas chambers in Auschwitz.

Yes, I can see the obvious: I am well aware that being unfairly suspected of anticommunist espionage and then sent to a labour camp fucking stinks. On the other hand, there was the alternative…

I find it more depressing than funny how generic antisocialists are willing to defend Finland’s malconduct throughout World War II. They’ll say that the Soviets ‘forced’ Finland to ally with the Third Reich because otherwise the Soviets were going to take over all of Finland, which was most unlikely.
Even if Moscow seriously planned on conquering all of Finland, how would that excuse Finland’s tolerance for antisemitism, tolerance for Fascist propaganda, quest for spazio vitale, cemeteries dedicated to Axis soldiers, unique ability to buy Fascist goods on credit, sale of nickel to the Reich, internment of 24,000 Russians (causing 4,200 deaths), deportation of 2,800 Soviet POWs to the Reich, murder of Communists and Jews among the Soviet POWs in Axis-controlled northern Finland in 1942, murder of Roma and involvement in other Axis war crimes? Did we ‘force’ Finland to do all of those, too?
Sigh.

Anarcho-Bolshevik@lemmygrad.mlto GenZedong@lemmygrad.ml•General Discussion Thread - Juche 114, Week 23 - Failed Colour Revolution EditionEnglish10·6 days agoQuoting Jeffrey Veidlinger’s In the Midst of Civilized Europe, pages 53–54:
Following the economic and military failures of the summer, popular support for the provisional government collapsed. The Bolsheviks gained a majority in the Petrograd Soviet, and on the morning of November 7, Lenin issued a manifesto announcing the overthrow of the provisional government and the transfer of power to the Petrograd Soviet.
[…]
With victory in his hands, Lenin promised a “democratic peace to all nations and an immediate armistice on all fronts” and proclaimed “the right of self-determination” for “all nationalities inhabiting Russia.” Elections to the Constituent Assembly, he continued, would proceed as planned in January.
The Bolsheviks had succeeded in securing power in the Russian capital and immediately set about exporting their revolution to the rest of the former Russian Empire. This meant, first, encouraging workers, peasants, and soldiers to establish soviets and assume power in their own regions; and second, raising a Red Army to conquer by force those territories that resisted.
In Kyiv, the Central Rada refused to recognize the undemocratic Bolshevik coup
(Emphasis added.)
How does an otherwise competent writer manage to contradict hisself within the span of only two pages? Either he deliberately lied to appease a publisher, his hamsterlike brain decided that it was time to say something anticommunist, this was a clumsy attempt to represent somebody else’s point of view, or his definition of democracy is utterly fucked.

I’ve noticed that a lot of complaints about the people’s republics is that their stuff isn’t fancy enough. Only one kind of soap, only one kind of apartment, only a handful of cars and they were all unimpressive. Antisocialists either never notice or never care that they have the privilege to be picky.
