  • From an outsider’s perspective, Japanese culture seems to foster a mutual respect for one another as well as for one’s community and environment.

On the contrary, America seems to idealize treating people with contempt unless there’s something you would want from them. Our society is very transactional and if you have nothing of interest to show for yourself then you have no worth to anybody and deserve no respect.

I know this is all a big generalization of two societies consisting of millions of people and this isn’t to say that everybody behaves the same way across both societies. But when you have a general behavior across a society then it’s no surprise that a significant portion of that society will adapt that behavior.

What are you interpreting from this meme? That men aren’t fit to lead because they are generally emotionally unstable? Because I don’t think that’s what this is suggesting at all.

Just that the same argument against women being too emotional is bullshit because we’ve got two men in powerful leadership positions acting like emotion-driven children.

  • If I’m driving in an area where pedestrians can be present and my view of a walkway is obstructed, I slow down. A speed limit isn’t an obligation nor is it a right to travel at speeds that have the potential to be unsafe. I treat every blind spot as if there’s something behind it ready to jump out at a moment’s notice and I adjust my speed to anticipate it. I do that because I believe operating within legally defined parameters doesn’t exempt me from the responsibility of my actions causing harm to another person.

We as a society are far too lenient toward drivers who take for granted the fact that they’re in control of high-velocity heavy-machinery that can and do kill people on a daily basis. Traffic deaths aren’t an inevitability, in most cases they’re caused by overconfidence.
